Together Tuesday #11: Who is your spouse?

A famous philosopher named Aristotle once wrote:

“Love is composed of a single soul inhabiting two bodies.”

Paul, apostle to the early church, expressed this as divinely inspired truth, when he wrote:

“For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh.” Eph. 5:31 KJV

It is so important for both husband and wife to recognize that they are one unit. This simple concept, when applied to all that we do and say, has the power to revolutionize your marriage.

Being one means you don’t keep secrets from each other. How can you keep a secret from yourself? Being one means you don’t try to hurt each other. If you do, you are only hurting yourself.

Our pastor recently said that a Christian couple who follow the leading of God in their marriage, is actually a reunification of one unit that existed in the mind of God before the world was formed. I really like that thought because it banishes the “mine” and “yours” philosophy that fragments many marriages.

You can even apply this concept to bank accounts and social media. Are you comfortable with your spouse knowing how much you have in all of your accounts? Can he/she make withdrawals as well as deposits?

How about social media? Can your spouse read all your messages freely?

If not, what are you going to do about it?

Take whatever steps you need to transform your marriage from two people in one house to one flesh and one soul who have been reunited.

So..who is your spouse? You!
